SAIDA–TIARET RAILWAY LINE

SAIDA–TIARET RAILWAY LINE

As part of the Saida-Tiaret railway line, which was constructed along the Rocade des Hauts Plateaux and connects to the Cechar-Mecheira-Oran line, DIAMONDS was responsible for the design and execution of static and dynamic load tests on a total of 80 structures, including 15 viaducts, 30 railway box culverts, and 35 road overpasses.

Before carrying out field activities, a preliminary modal analysis was conducted for each structure. Based on their geometric and structural characteristics, finite element models were developed using SAP2000 software to compare theoretical behaviour with experimental results obtained during testing. Dynamic tests were performed using moving loads at controlled speeds to induce structural vibrations, measured with accelerometers. For the assessment of deflections, the effects of railway load models (LM71, SW0, and SW/2) and road loads were considered, applying the corresponding dynamic amplification factors. The load conditions required to produce the maximum stresses, as determined by the rare combination of serviceability limit states, were then defined. Once the load test was designed, with the definition of applied loads and expected theoretical displacements, in-situ tests were carried out, comparing the measured experimental values with those obtained from the theoretical model.
